Monster Materials

Monster Materials come in four varieties - Potent, Vitality, Mana, and Power. These different materials, depending on type, give an extra boosts to the default stat increases given by a node in the Crystarium. Potent materials give an extra balanced boost to all three stats in one shot while the other materials give an even higher boost to focused stats. Vitality materials boost HP, Mana materials boost the Magic stat, and Power materials boost the Strength stat.

So, that in mind, here are the materials you'll want to use for the varied roles: Commandos should use primarily Potent materials with some Power materials thrown in on some of the big crystarium nodes. You'll want to look at what the average stats are for your particular monster and see how much you want to boost a certain stat. Our lists are based on the use of all Potent materials. For Ravager monsters you should also plan on keeping things balanced with Potent materials, while throwing in the occasional Mana material on large nodes. Sentinels are really very simple - Vitality nodes for everything. Their abilities have no basis in strength or magic so you'll want to give them as much HP as possible with Vitality nodes. Saboteurs are another role that use both strength and magic. However, if you're specializing a Saboteur to use mostly physical abilities or mostly magic abilities you may want to skew the stats with either Power or Mana materials. Medics have absolutely no need for a strength stat. The efficacy of their healing spells is dependent on their magic stat. However, they tend to have low HP so you will want to alternate between Mana and Vitality materials. Synergists don't use either a strength or magic stat for their abilities so its in your best interests to use Vitality materials, as their natural HP stats are usually low. Survivability is what you'll want to emphasize.

Note: Potent materials have distinguished farming locations. For the other various materials we have listed which monsters drop them and the percentage of the drop. For a list of monster locations check out our Monster Locations page.
