New Bodhum 003AF

Side Notes

New Bodhum doesn't boast much in the way of return value as far as sidequests and level opportunities go but there are a few reasons to stop back in at various points in the game.

On your first visit back you will get a brief cut-scene with a more humble Gadot.

If you're ever hurting for Potions or Phoenix Downs and don't want to buy them (Phoenix Downs are ridiculously expensive) then New Bodhum is the place to go. If you stick to the shallows area you'll fight tons of Spiceacilians which drop a crazy amount of Potions. You'll also fight the Sarracenias which have Phoenix Downs as their only drop almost always drop them. By far the best place to get these staple items.

If you're a completionist and want to get all monster crystals then it will necessitate a trip back here. Most of them are no trouble to acquire. Monsters of note include the Pulsework Soldier who boasts higher stats than its Bresha Ruins cousin the Pulsework Knight. However, this monster doesn't appear with near the frequency that the Knight does and you won't get near the amount of CP from fighting in New Bodhum as you will in the Bresha Ruins. The Tabasco Toad only shows up after you return to this location and is a decent Ravager that is worth picking up. The rarest monster of the area, the Exoray, only appears in the shallows. It is a ridiculously rare medic and only has a 10% catch chance. With Cait Sith already being a solid option at this point it is probably better to come back after you've got the Monster Collector fragment skill.

There are also two Improved Moogle Throw Monster Crystals in New Bodhum. You'll get this skill upon your first visit to the Mystic in Serendipity. You get Cactuarina (MED) by throwing Mog into the crater beneath the gate. You'll get te Rangda (SAB) by throwing Mog into the ocean off the pier in New Bodhum proper. Note: this one may take a try or two. Make sure you're right up on the edge of the pier.
