Scene: Chapter 5ITEMS: Remedy, 2 X-Potion, 2 Budget Grenade, 2 Sleep Grenade, 2 Turbo Ether, Ochre Ring, Diamond Gloves, Hyper Wrist, Mystery Veil, Talisman, Corpus Invictus, Nature's Lore, Force of Nature Dear Diary, When we got to the Thunder Plains the Al Bhed were in the midst of a crisis. Fiends were attacking each of the lightning towers which threw off their protection and lightning was striking down everywhere. We decided to get rid of the fiends at each tower but after we'd gotten them all we realized lightning was still striking so we set out in search of the 10th lightning tower. Note:At each lightning tower after you've defeated the fiend there a chest will appear. The item in the chest is based on your highest mini-game score for that lightning tower. For more information on this go to the Lightning Tower Calibration page. When we found it we had to fight a nasty creature called Humbaba.
This battle isn't too terribly difficult if you keep your party's HP up. The Humbaba will absorb lightning attacks and he frequently casts Mighty Guard on himself. You'll want to cast Dispel on it to remove the Shell and Protect abilities but it will still have a raised defense. So, you'll need to use abilities that ignore defense like the Dark Knight's Darkness ability or the Gunner's Cheap Shot. You absolutely must keep your party's HP up because when the Humbaba dies he casts Meteor on your party which can kill an unprepared party. After finishing off the Humbaba we noticed that one of the lightning towers had a hole at its base. One of the Al Bhed led us inside where we explored the maze. After a good deal of exploring we came upon Cid, who'd been injured. But before we could help him out of the cave we were attacked by a huge machina!.
This boss is not that bad if you've taken the necessary precautions. Starting in Chapter three you should have encountered flying, spinning machinas called Watchers. Before they die you'll always see the message that they're "reporting" something. Depending on which type they are they are reporting any attack (A), recovery (R), or special attack (S) abilities that you've used in the battle before they die. They are reporting to the Machina Panzer. To simplify this battle you'll need to, in your encounters with the watchers, always kill them using regular physical attacks before killing any other creatures. Then they won't have been able to report anything. If you failed at this task then the Machina Panzer will lock and then mimic your abilities. To get the abilities back you have to kill off the three watchers that accompany it while trying not to die of your own tricks. Without your abilities to use the Machina Panzer still uses two powerful attacks called Gatling Gun and Sorcery Ray. Have one party member heal frequently while the other two use strong attacks to take the overgrown machina down quickly. Note: You will receive an Episode Complete after you've rescued Cid from the Machina Panzer. However, there is still one task left to complete at the Thunder Plains for you to get 100% completion. You'll need to re-enter the cavern. This time the maze walls will be in place and you'll have to solve the puzzle of the cavern.
