The ultimate weapon in this game is not a sword but a spear instead (ultimate referring to highest attack power possible). For those of you who must open every box in your path this quest will make you twitch. This quest requires that you don't open boxes in four specific areas during the game. If you manage that then the Zodiac Spear will appear in its box in the Necrohol of Nabudis later in the game. If you fail and open one of the taboo boxes then the Spear's box will simply be empty.

These are the boxes that must be left alone:

Boxes Pt.1: Once you have access to Lowtown there is a box directly across from Old Dalan's place. Leave this box alone.

Boxes Pt.2: When you enter the Palace Cellars the first two boxes directly to the right are not to be touched. Luckily this is a one time visit area - no temptation once you're past it.

Boxes Pt.3: When you're getting ready to escape Nalbina Prison you'll get your belongings back in a side room - Don't open ANY boxes in this room. Again - this is a one time visit location.

Boxes Pt.4: In the Phon Coast location (much later in the game) you'll come upon a beach in the Vaddu Strand screen that has 16 boxes clumped together in a square. Don't open ANY of these boxes (they only hold pidlydink gil anyway). This is the last group of boxes to leave alone. The next task is finding your prize.

That is a feat in and of itself. Your prize is located in the Necrohol of Nabudis, a nasty little area accessed through the Silikawood and the Nabreus Deadlands (another tough location). You will encounter this location when you go up against the Esper Chaos. There are three doors in this location and the one that concerns you now is the Door of Despair.

The Door of despair is in the very middle screen in the Necrohol. There is a completely enclosed room directly north of the Door of Despair. In this room you will find 16 boxes. If you visualize the boxes as four rows of four from the doorway to the back of the room the Zodiac Spear can be found in the second box from the left in the first row.
