Excalibur I & II

In Final Fantasy the best weapon in the game belongs to Steiner. It is also very difficult to get. However, it has a brother sword that is easier to get but not as strong. These weapons are the Excalibur and the Excalibur II.

To get the Excalibur, Steiner's third best weapon, you must purchase the Magical Fingertip from the Treno auction. You must have previously purchased Griffin's Heart, Doga's Artifact, Une's Mirror, and the Rat Tail and sold them to buyers in Treno. For more info about this check out the Treno Auction Sidequest page.

After buying this go speak with the Old Man wandering the Library in Daguerreo. (Note, you may have to speak with him before the magical fingertip will appear at auction.) He'll reminisce for awhile but if you have the Magical Fingertip he will part with his old sword, the Excalibur, in exchange for the item.

To get the Excalibur II, the strongest weapon of the game (108 Atk Power), you must reach and defeat Lich, the third to last boss of the game, in under 12 hours. After this look for an exclamation point near the second pillar from the right on the Terrace. Here you'll find a note from Cid I and Excalibur II.

In order to accomplish this you're going to need to do a number of things:

- Skip all FMV's (movie sequences) by opening and closing the lid (psone) or tray (PS2) of your machine.

- Skip all noncompulsory ATE's.

- Save your game only when necessary and alternate using 3 different slots so that you can reset if you feel something took too long.

- Turn your ATB Gauge and Message speed to the highest speed.

- Save before making an equipment or synthesis purchase. Then take your time to plan what you'll need. Reset and then quickly carry out the purchase choices you made.

- Use Zidane's Flee ability to avoid frequent or prolonged encounters.

- Skip quickly through dialogues by pressing the X button rapidly.

Also, you must know this game extremely well. You must know exactly where you're going and how to get there. Good Luck!
