Chocobo Hot & Cold

After leaving Lindblum in Disc 1 you can cross a small bridge over the river East of Lindblum. As you cross the bridge you'll see a rather large forest. Upon entering this forest you'll meet Mene, a moogle, and Choco, a Chocobo. Unfortunately Choco runs off when he sees Zidane.

As Mene explains, Choco is shy at first but once he chooses a master they will be his master for life. Mene then gives you some Ghysall Greens and asks you to go to the Chocobo Tracks East of the forest and use them to call Choco.

Do this and return with Choco to the Forest. Mene will congratulate you and then offer to let you dig for treasure in the forest. He charges 60 gil for 60 seconds. You play the game by following Choco's indications as to how close he is to the treasure (Hot and Cold). The indications are as follows:

- Kweh: Nothing

- Kweh!?: Far away (vaguely sense something)

- Kwehhh!?: Close (almost there)

- K-KWEHHH!!!: Found something. (I GOT IT!!!)

As you dig you'll find treasures as well as small maps called Chocographs. For more info on these check out the Chocograph Side Quest page. Chocographs help you find treasure on the world map. You'll eventually learn new chocobo abilities that allow you to access two more locations to play Chocobo Hot & Cold.

Once you acquire the Reef ability you can access the Chocobo Lagoon. This is located on an island South of the Forgotten Continent. You'll have to use chocobo tracks a few islands over and navigate the reefs to access the lagoon. Here, at first, you'll only be able to dig in half the lagoon. Mene will cut the cost and time in half for the smaller area. When you get the Sea ability you'll be access the whole lagoon and the price and time will go back up.

After you get the Sky ability you can reach the Chocobo Air Garden. To reach this place you'll need to fly over a rather obvious shadow (first located on the islands West of the Lagoon) then feed Choco a Dead Pepper so he can fly up to the garden. Up here you'll be given 60 seconds for 60 gil. After you've found the Air Garden once it will move. Its location will be marked on your world map so you can find it again.

Also, as you dig your beak level will go up so that you can dig more quickly and deeper. The treasures that you can uncover include:
