ChocobosFinal Fantasy X-2's Chocobo mini-game is the key to finding some awesome items and garment grids as well as opening up several other mini-games. You must start a sequence of events in Chapter 1 by finding Clasko and inviting him on your ship to open up the Chocobo mini-game. During random battles in various locations you'll encounter Chocobos. If you have access to the Chocobo Ranch you can capture Chocobos and send them to the ranch. However, to have access to the ranch you must complete the following series of events: * Step 1 - Speak with Clasko during the "Foggy Fiend Frenzy" mission at Mushroom Rock Road during Chapter 1. He's in the area where you agree to take on the "Frenzy" mission. * Step 2 - Once you've completed the "Frenzy" mission return to Mushroom Rock Road and speak with Clasko again. Agree to let him join you on the airship. * Step 3 - During Chapter 2 participate in the "Cuckoo for Chocobos" mission at the Mi'ihen Highroad. Clasko will leave the airship to aid you in completing the quest. * Step 4 - After completing the "Cuckoo" mission return to the Mi'ihen Highroad and bring Clasko back onto the ship. * Step 5 - During Chapter 2 after the above step go to the Calm Lands. Choose to follow Clasko when he runs off towards the Monster Arena. Then complete the "Clean Sweep" mission. Now you can begin gathering Chocobos. To catch a Chocobo when you find one you must feed it Ghysal Greens when all of the monsters in the battle have been defeated. To keep it around long enough you should feed it greens right away to keep it occupied. When you catch a Chocobo it is automatically sent to the Ranch. The ranch can hold up to 14 Chocobos. The chocobos are divided into two groups - Choco-runners and Choco-reserves. The runners are the chocobos you send out to locations to hunt for treasure. The reserves are your backups in case any of your runners run away. Chocobos can be caught everywhere except Bevelle, Lake Macalania, Mi'ihen Highroad, Mt. Gagazet, Mushroom Rock Road, and Zanarkand Ruins. Raising ChocobosOnce you've filled your ranch with Chocobos you'll want to raise their levels. They can reach up to level 5 but not all Chocobos can be raised to level 5. To raise Chocobos you'll need Clasko to acquire more than just Ghysal Greens. He acquires more greens based on how many battles Yuna and Co. have fought. The green acquisition ratios are as follows:
Ghysal Greens are used for capturing chocobos. The other greens - Pahsana, Sylkis, & Mimett - are used for raising chocobos. You choose a chocobo from the menu and you feed it a certain number of greens depending on what level you are wanting to raise them to. These numbers are as follows:
A Chocobo's level determines what quality items they bring back when you dispatch them to locations. Dispatching ChocobosOnce you've got the hang of catching and raising your chocobos the time has come for you to start sending them out into Spira. By sending them out you can acquire lots of items (their quality depends on a number of things) and open up hidden locations. For more information about the hidden locations see the following mini-game sections: Chocobo Ranch Dungeon and Mi'ihen Highroad Dungeon. Now as you've caught your chocobos they will have been assigned a Nature. They can be either Timid, Normal, or Bold. Their Nature is usually determined by where you captured them. Timid Chocobos are usually found in Besaid, Moonflow, or Macalania Forest. Normal Chocobos are usually found at Djose Temple or the Calm Lands. Bold Chocobos are usually found in Kilika, Thunder Plains or Bikanel. Each chocobo is suited to finding treasure at certain locations based on its temperament. Before dispatching any chocobos take a look at the following table:
This table tells you where a chocobo of a given nature is best suited to be dispatched to. If a chocobo is unsuited to a particular area it has a higher probability to run away. Also, each chocobo has a heart stat. Being dispatched consumes a set number of that chocobo's heart stat. If that number is reduced to 0 the chocobo will be lost. The heart stat can be refilled by feeding a chocobo greens at the ranch. However, it's a good idea to keep the stat as high as possible at all times. If a chocobo is well suited to the area it will loose 15 heart for each trip. If a chocobo has average suitability it will loose 30 heart. If it is unsuited it will loose 60 heart. Also, if a chocobo is well suited to a location it will bring back more treasure. The number of items a chocobo brings back is determined by its suitability to the area and the number of Choco-Reserves at the ranch. The following table tells you what items can be found at a given location at each chocobo level. Note that you will not always find all four items.
